31-year-old Spiritual master Meher Baba, originally Merwan Sheriar Irani aka Avatar decides to keep silent for the rest of his life in Meherabad, Maharashtra, India.

Baba was communicating first by use of chalk and slate, then by an alphabet board and later by self-styled hand gestures. In January 1927 he gave up writing with pen or pencil also.

A ransom note was received, demanding $17 million in exchange for Getty's safe return. When that ransom message arrived, some family members suspected the kidnapping was merely a ploy by the rebellious youngster as he had frequently joked about staging his own kidnapping to extract money from his frugal grandfather.

Berkowitz refused to identify the person(s) who had attacked him with a knife but suggested that the act was directed by the cult he once belonged to. He bears a permanent scar from the wound that took 56 stitches to close.
